Location | Tai Lam Tunnel, Hong Kong
Built in 1998, the 3,8 km long Tai Lam Tunnel is an important transport link to connect the Hong Kong area with Shenzhen city and the rest of China. The tunnel had the goal of easing traffic congestion and have a better link for both passenger services and freight transportation to the Chinese country. The construction took place below Tai Lam Country Park, but many trees were destroyed. Therefore the project cared for its environment and wildlife by planting 250,000 trees, 150,000 shrubs, 60,000 climbing plants, and built a small tunnel for wildlife crossing.
