Citadelle Vauban is located on the island of Belle Isle. The fort began its construction in 1549 and has been used in the fights against pirates, spaniards and english throughout the centuries. In 1960 the fort was abandoned by the french army and sold to individuals who have restored the fort to its current state. Since 2005, new owners have established a hotel and a museum telling the story of the fort.
